IN looking at the IMC208RR canola, the alberta ag website lists it as 94% of the new checks, yet the post below says that it is 73% of the praire average. How do you find the data for the western coop variety trial for this year or years past?

The discrepancy in yield numbers for canola varieties can be confusing! There are 3 different sources of yield numbers on Ropin' the Web! Under variety descriptions, the yield data came from the 2 years of registration (coop)data -- in the case of IMC208RR, it is contract registration data. The contract registration specialty oil lines were often compared only to Apollo.
Then under variety performance (also the Agdex 100/32 factsheet), the canola yield data is a multi-year combination of coop and Alberta regional variety trial data for each area. At least it was until this year. The prairie provinces are not conducting canola regional tests and the Canola Council of Canada is now coordinating the Prairie Canola Variety Trial. The results for this new trial system are only one year data -- no multi-year summaries. The results for three maturity zones across the prairies will be included in the 2004 Alberta Agriculture factsheet, and will also be published in the Canola Digest. The data will also be posted on the Canola Council of Canada website.
Finally, there are farmer reported yields for each soil zone in Alberta based on crop insurance records. The yields for specific varieties are shown for each year (up to 5 years past).
