Most of the major seed companies are now having their canola seed treated and then sealed with a polymere, approx 5%. How is this seed performing in terms of germination. There are definite advantages for coated seed, less dusting off and better flowability but there is some grumbling amoung farmers about possible germination problems.
What is going on in the field? I think alot of the problem is with poor vigour with some seed due to high green seed counts. Most of the grumblings seem to be from seed planted in cool dry soils where germination is already hampered. Farmers are seeding canola earlier into much cooler soils than just a few years back.
Maybe a combination of all factors?
