    silage barley

I'm looking for some corncob barley or hulless barley. I believe the cultivar name is Westward but I might be mistaken. Anyone know where to get some reasonably priced seed in East central Alberta. What are your experiences growing it? I hear it is wicked bad for smut.

The barley I believe your talking about is called westford. It is hulless and it is not to bad for smut.We grow it ourselves for greenfeed and it really produces some outstanding tonnage. We have grown it on both dryland and irrigated. We combined some the last two years cause it is hard to find.We first bought it from agricore as certified seed and we have been selling lots to cattle men and feedlots for silage also.As common of course. It has yielde as high as 91 on irr. and 35 on dry.It has huge leaves on it, about the width of a toonie. We have some for sale if you are interested.Located in southern alberta.

Circlex, thanks for the input. I am just starting to look for seed for the new year. What does the bushel weight look like? Where are you at? What are you asking for price? How do you think it would work for swath grazing? Would you have a b-train volume.

Grassmarketeer, i've never used for swath grazing but it's awesome greenfeed so I don't know why it wouldn't be for swath grazing. It weighs 48 lbs uncleaned and we do have a b-train load.E-mail me for price @ circlex@telusplanet.net
