    frost damage

How much frost is been seen already from the last few days and what crops?
We got hit harder than the temps indicated. Fearing lots of canola damage and lentils are toast. Temp var. from 0 to -4. Too early to tell on wheat and barley. All later peas are blackish already as well.

N.E. Sask frost was fairly severe. Some neighbours said -4.5 to -5. and some say -1. our garden hardly shows signs, and the immature peas 1/2 mile away in the field are squishy and seeping water(I'd say done). Canola will be a big ?? hope others fair better

Sunday night just north of Brandon. We were told to wait three days so I checked things out. The canola looks allright. Planted some polish Canola on July 1st & it is still flowering. Don't know how since there was still lots of frost on ground at 7 am.The sunflowers got abit touched on the outside but generally OK.We need another month with no frost to get us completely out of the woods. I heard today crops south of Austin got hit pretty hard. Time will tell.

Hearing rumors of some savage frosts in Sask and Man... -4 for over 2 hours? Any damage showing up yet? Has been cold north of Edmonton the past few nights, but I haven't seen anything lower than 2, but have heard of some garden cucumbers being shrivelled...

canola damage is showing up everywhere, range 20-80% . Most canola should have made 30 to 40 bus/ac, we will average 15 now, and lucky if it is not sample. It is abolutely sickening for us. Again, this is not just local this is very wide spread from North Battleford to south of Regina and most areas east of this line. There is now way there will be close to 7mmt of no.1 canola, let alone the 8.2mmt in the last report.

I sympathize with you and others hit by frost. I spent a few sleepless nights around the 20th, and we came close but seemed to have dodged another bullet. Frost damage in our area (12 miles west of Winnipeg) was evident in sensitive plants such as corn and soybeans, but there is no sign so far in the canola.

I seeded my canola on May 8, and although I expected frost risk in the spring, I never imagined having frost threaten the crop at both ends of the growing season.
