Below are general guidelines (Source: Alberta Agriculture)for seeding triticale in the Parkland area...... The best time to seed winter triticale and winter wheat on black soils is between the last week of August and the end of the first week of September. Do not delay seeding of winter triticale past mid-September because winter triticales hardens more slowly than winter wheat. Once developed, however, the hardiness of winter triticale equals or exceeds that of winter wheat. Bobcat is described as a shorter triticale variety (20cm less than checks), with good yield potential and winter survival tolerance similar to Pika. Adapted to the Parkland area, it has 'short awnlettes' (or awns) that make it somewhat more desirable for greenfeed.
