    Malt on malt stubble?

I'm thinking of putting one quarter of malt barley on barley stubble.

I know it's not a good idea, but circumstances may make it necessary.

Is there any chance of getting malt quality? It will be the same variety as previous year.

The only alternative I can think of is wheat. Is there any way to keep barley volunteers to a minimum? Often we seed before volunteer barley will have sprouted, taking away the preseed option.

long as you go with the same variety and are prepared to use a fungicide I wouldn't be too worried.

Did you get a good growth in the fall?

If so volunteers shouldn't be a big problem.
