Great question. I am also wondering about this. Due to high phos prices I am strongly considering getting it on my canola seed. Cost through Pioneer Hi-Bred pre-treated on their seed is $0.96/lb.
It has worked in our area. You may not always see a yeild bump if you drop your seed place phos by half or more, but you should not see a yeild drop either. With current phos values it does deffinately pay to use jumpstart. Also your crop will be much more aggresive out of the ground.
We seen a yeild jump of 4 bus/ac last year, but we kept our alpine levels the same accross the feild. We are looking at cutting the alpine in half and using jumpstart on all seed for this year. We will do a few test strips, just to drive the old man crazy. We used "provide" years ago but it was always a wash money wise. Now there is a definate advantage for our soils.
Some farmers intend on using Jumpstart only for a phos source in their canola.
