Their is a growing number of farmers wishing to enter or expand in the dairy industry with a complimentary system of private business to private business contracts within the terms of NAFTA. The recent WTO-ITT ruling confirms the need for a different export strategy. Private dairy exports can provide growth opportunities in rural Canada, increased farm revenue and profits, and at the same time work along side our domestic supply system. Such a system would NOT require quota holdings and can, with understanding of the US dairy supply chain provide market growth. Our SM system works well for the DOMESTIC market, but has very limited capabilities for agressively seeking export opportunities. My contention is that significant growth can take place with minimal impact on our domestic system, provided it is run independant from our present structures. Comments.
