JD 9760

We have a Jd 9760 combine and when we engage the rotor the combine shuts down as soon as we engage the switch. It blows fuse F20 up behind the engine by the fuel tank. We can not seem to find out what is causing this.
We put the fuse in and the combine runs can use the unload auger etc drive the combine but as soon as we flip the switch we loose all power to the igintion, coner post etc. The horn will still work.
Just wondering if any one else had this trouble and if you did what caused it.

We have it at the dealership now and the fuse does not blow when we try it here but I bet if we go out to the field it won't work.

im yellow cant help but something is overloading the cicuit or shorting out in switch

We had weird stuff happen on our 9750, the auger would come out by itself and start unloading. One day the auger decided to come out will inside the Machine SHED. Almost a 15,000 dollar bill, right there.

We tried wiggling the wiring harnesses on the ECM's and seemed to help.

Maybe pull all the harness and spray them with electrical contact cleaner.

A poor connection causes increased resistance and will increase current and will blow a fuse.

Several years back my combine header would shut down every time I talked on the old CB radio. The simple fix was to move the radio farther away from the switches.

On our 9660 I was combining one night and the header and seperator shut down. We had to get a John Deere mechanic to come figure out what was wrong. After some investigation he tested the charging system and found that the alternator was only putting out 11 volts. Not enough to run the electrical system properly. If the low voltage light would have come on in the cab we probably would have figuered out that the alternator was not working. As it was you could engage the seperator and as soon as you engaged the table they both would stop. Lights and everything else still worked. With a blown fuse you must have a short some where.

We could not find any thing wrong and they could
not find nothing wrong at the dealership as well.
There was a lot of Static electricity we noticed on
the combine when we would hold on to the hand
rails etc. We attached an small chain to drag on the
ground from the rear axle and that got rid of lots
of the static. We worked a few days after and did
not blow another fuse. Now we are just waiting for
the weather to warm and dry up to finish off a few
small sloughs.
