air seeder hopper or Michels hydr. augers

I had a 3225 Bougault tank with a airseeder hopper and now next spring will be running a 6450 air cart.

I use a semi in the field so i either need the air seeder hopper or now I am thinking of trying hydraulic augers on my castleton 36 ft trailer.

My truck has a wet kit that I have never used but I also see I can plumb into the cart's loading auger.

Anyone using the hyd. augers and how well do they work???????

the augers work good. put on a wet kit way cleener no pissing around with hoses.

I use 2 10 inch hopper augers on 2 trailers and use them also at harvest time. I love them, pull up to the 13 inch auger at harvest one stop and unload, back up pull away. Mine don't keep up to a full speed 13 inch 99 model year brant but I adapt the pto from 1000 to 540 then the tractor is just over idle. Much less shaking when auger runs empty. If you got the hydraulic on the truck for God sake use it. The big pumps have all kinds of capacity.

        cheapest and best option is.
Cut some small holes in the sides of your slides on your trailer hoppers and build some little boxes with gates to control flow.
Hint don't make the boxes hang too low, or it catches on your auger hopper.

You can get 90% of the product out of the trailer and only have to clean out on the last load.

We have Michels augers and they work well. but this option is probably 80% as effective and a fraction the price.
        hope this helps

Does the 6450 not come with the folding 10 inch auger?
If it does you wont need anything, if it does not get it. By far best option as it speeds up fill time dramatically.
          IMO

I ordered the 6450 without deluxe auger,it was another $8600.00.

My castleton trailer has side chutes, but not sure if they will reach standard hopper on cart.

              We have a 6550 with the 10"air seeder hopper, and a 5350 with a older conventional 8"
I would bet the fill time would be half on the big guy.
likely means getting into another fill a day.
Same principle as going to 3" fill hoses on the sprayer, the faster you fill the more you are seeding/spraying.
              just my 2 cents.
