why should we yield map our farms?

our dealer (deere) says we should map our yields. I am having trouble figuring out what kind of decisions we would make differently with the maps of the yields.

what is everyone else finding? is it worth the work and money to set up?

You shouldn't it is a complete waste of
time, the data collected is completely irrelevant.

If you want to get a good variable rate
    fertilizer prescription that is useful,
you would need to get someone like Farmers
Edge to do some soil samples.

Yield maps are the only way of really knowing what came out of the field. You can base fertilizer rates off soil samples, which isn't a bad idea, but how will you know the results?
