Auto steer and mapping, what are you using?

Looking to upgrade from guidance to autosteer and mapping. What's everybody using out there? Outback, Trimble, Raven?? And more importantly do you like the system you have?

I'm considering the Outback S3 with the e-drive autosteer.

    Cheers,

    Steve

Using the John Deere autosteer system with Apex 2 software for use on the combine, swather and sprayer. Also have an outback S that I used to use for spraying, but I'm retiring it and buying another JD for the variable rate drill.

Yeah, if you have John Deere stuff, it's the way to go. Much less wiring mess. Quite a few neighbors have the Outback systems here and have had very good results. I was keen on the Trimble units because of their portability unit to unit, but have heard mixed reviews on performance.

        Outback all the way.

The new S3 will be great for spraying.

You can also buy the older s (s lite?) and s2 at cheaper prices if all you need is guidance and you will get very good accuracy.

The edrive kits are easy to install.

I am impressed with the nieghbour's outback auto steer last year on their sprayer at over 15 miles per hour. so I am upgrading to the s3 this year for planting so that I can go straight with the world and repeat it for next year to plant between the rows, a nice option.

Has outback incorporated any variable rate technology into their hardware? I liked the way the outback worked, simple to operate, but all it would do is steer the tractor.

I think from what I've read the S3 does have the ability to do variable rate operations. Much nicer now that it is encompassed in one unit instead of two as well. Neighbor is installing one in his high clearance sprayer this week.

Anybody have any experience with the Trimble line of products? I like the portability of the EZ -steer but not so sure of it's accuracy.

I use an old old system called VPS.

It was installed by my father years ago. Just a few slaps upside the head when I drove crooked and missed or overlaped.

The only time it breaks down is right after lunch it seems to get fuzzy and black out, but a couple minutes of rest and it is okay again. My tractor steers easy with power steering compared to the old armstrong I was raised on.

Very portable goes anywhere I go and in any machine, tractor or vehicle.

Have you ever tried the TOW upgrade to the VPS? TOW requires upgrades for different sized applications.

Been Trimble EZ-Guide 250 for couple weeks. They have 8 different patterns and Freeform pattern is the most useful what I need also there other A B adaptive curve also find it is useful. Don't have EZ- Steering but probably will, as someone saying should have. Will see how doing in spraying.
