I have an old Noble DK4 seed drill with a Cominco '80' fertilizer attachment, and need to know how to set the rate on it. The rate wheel has numbers from 1 to 11 on it (the wheel is the one that rocks the u-trough in the bottom of the box), how do you convert this to pounds per acre? The trough that is in the bottom of the fertilizer box is 5/16' wide. There are no settings anywhere on the box, not surprising seeing as how old the thing is!, but I would still like to use it and don't really have time to do a trial and error set up. Thanks

The Alberta Farm Machinery Research Centre (AFMRC) has an evaluation report available for a Spierco M80 fertilizer attachment( evaluation report #176), which uses a similar system as the Cominco box. The report includes a calibration chart. If you would like, I can mail you a copy of that report; just give me a call or an email. Contact Darryl Slingerland at (403) 329-1212, or email darryl.slingerland@agric.gov.ab.ca

I have a chart from a Spierco box that may be of help to you but have been unable to convert the file into a format that I could include in this reply. If you reply including your email address, I can send it to you via email.
I have also modified my DK5 drills for direct seeding and high trash clearance. If you are interested, plans can be made available. I say "plans can be made available" because some phases of the project have yet to be documented.
