Overheat Idling - Ford Grain truck

I have a 1982 Ford LN 700 grain truck.....V8engine, 4v. It overheats when idling. We've tried a new thermostat, switched to a 7 blade fan and added a spacer to move the fan closer to the rad. None work, next is to replace the rad?? Apparently, the core is too tight on most Ford grain trucks? Anyone had similar problems?

Yes, I have a f-800 with the 429 ci and had the same problem. I changed thermostats, new fan, etc all the cheap stuff that didnt work. I finally took the rad in and had it flushed (they soldered up a couple leaks that showed up after all the bars leaks was cleaned out) and it works like new now. I wasted my time with the cheap stuff that didnt work. good luck

If you have the fluid clutch fan, it may be faulty. Also double check your idle speed (engine) is not too slow. Check your rad cap too.
