which silage cutter is the best?

I am considering buying a forage harvester this year to do my 100 acres and also do some custom work to help make payments. For the pull types, I have heard that the case/heston is the best, what is everyone elses experiences? With a new machine, how much maintenance in $ per year would there be? Any other info would also be greatly apprieciated. Thanks

If you are only planning on putting up a hundred acres of your own plus some custom (depending on how much) it may be hard to justify a new machine. We currently have a two year old NH 900 and we put up roughly 750 acres a year with only rebuilding the spout liners and putting new blower paddles in it. For your first few years the maintaince costs are quite low as long as you grease it and try not to run any rocks or iron through it.

Thanks for replying. If you can answer a few more questions, that would be great! How do you like your NH 900? Do you think its the best over JD & Case? How many acres can you do in a day? What hp do you use on it? How big a swath will it take & how fast? Sorry for all the questions, but I have more if you will answer them. Thank you in advance for replying and I look forward to hearing more from you.

p.s. I expect to put up my own 100 acres, my neighbors 100 acres and want to do as much custum work that I could possibly pick up.

Pesticide price depends on what market is willing to pay for product. That is why price differ in different world areas.
