has anyone use the 3" spread tips from bourgalt tillage tools? I am looking for a tip to use on a 12" spacing drill. I have the changable knives with the bolt on tip. Mostly going to seed peas and barley with this outfit.

The pointed splitter on the back of the tip that is supposed to spread the seed/fert to the sides builds up very quickly with fertilizer dust, dirt, and seed treatment dust. It certainly changes the way the tip is supposed to work as the seed does not split as it should, it just kinda gets thrown around at the bottom of the trench and mixes in at different heights. I have seen other tips out there without the splitter that stay very smooth and work well.

I like mine. They pull quite a bit harder than a 3/4" knife. Yes in muddy conditions the spreader under the knife plugs and the spread is narrower. An excellent match for a 3" packer. They also make a 4" spread tip.
Atom jet also makes a very nice 3 and 4 inch spread tip. They use a more vertical style opener which pulls harder than the sloped knife style.
