    Rotary combines

    Hi!
I am thinking about getting a newer combine. Right now I have a New Holland TR 96. The ones I am considering are the TR 99, Case 2388 and the New Holland CR 940. Does anyone have experience with one of these machines and what to watch out for?
    Thanks!

I like the Case 2388 simply because they have great value.
They do an excellent job of threshing (no cracks or whitecaps and fairly easy to set)
Stick to the newer 2388s they have a heavier drive on the rotor and a different rotor (the old ones have a "specialty rotor" and the newer ones have an "afx rotor").
The AFX rotor smoothes out uneven swaths so it feeds better.

The 23 is one of those machines that has been around so long that they have all the kinks worked out but i wouldn't run one over 1500 sep hours because repair costs get to high.

I would also agree the 2388 is going to do an excellent job for you. They are a very simple combine, easy to fix.

I myself wouldn't be that afraid of an older 2388, they worked fine. As for the AFX rotor they are better, but we still run a specialty, and a standard no complaints.

As for resale yes the 2388 will have better resale, but the TR 99 you will be purchasing for less, so it all balances out.

Simply comes down what your comfortable with, we have run both TR's and IH's I do know our TR's were an expensiver combine to maintain. But myself recently looked at TR's again simply because alot of combine for not big $$. Hope this helps. Good Luck!!

We have a 2004 2388. We have run always run axial-flows. Very simple and reliable combine. We have no complaints.

I bought a used 2188 (from a NH dealer) 4 years back, and I asked for a Combine Inspection by an authorized dealer to identify any problems. Was very helpful! Problems were addressed and I bought the combine. Have inspections done routinely. Usually do whole season with only minor problems. 350 Hrs./Season

I have a 2188 and a 1991 1680. I have been using international since 1982 and I like them for their simplicity and ease of service. The older drivers I have I think I may not be able to make good use of the 2388 as harder to drive at higher speed. I service and maintain them daily myself and have been able to keep the threshing going. Don't think the cost of upkeep too high as the depretiation on a newer one would be much more and not neccessarily less maintenance. The combine clinics are good to go to preharvest.
