Wally World oils?

Has anyone had any experience with oils from wal mart? I've always used the premium, big name stuff thinking you get what you pay for. However, in the last 3 years this stuff has mostly doubled in price which is over double the price of walmart's. ie: 15w40 walmart 29.99 vs. 62 for the 18.9L. If we were only running one small car it would be one thing, but with grain and cattle there is a lot of oil changed in a year. Seems like several hundred dollars difference needs to be considered. If the oil meets specs, why not?

I use WalMart TDH oil in all my tractor hydraulic systems.

I use it on anything once it's out of warranty. As long as you keep to your oil change schedule I'm not too worried.

Do you have a local co-op? I found this spring and lately that the co-ops have had much better deals on 110 liter drums, check them out. Plus you get a dividend.

I use wally 10-30 in old engines and seems to work better than others. If i was closer all i would buy is their oil if the price is good. No bulk buys in the peace country.

There is a refinery in Kitchener Ontario called Safety-Kleen, they collect used motor oil and other products from garages, quickee lubes and recycling depots.
They filter, re-refine and add new additives and packag and sell the oil. A few years ago I saw on wal-mart brand oil it was made by Safety-Kleen, I had been using it previously and thought about it for a while. The plant is a decent size, is no more disorganized than any conventional refinery in north america (I have worked in 30 or so), and with new additives the oil meets the API specs so I kept using the oil. No problems as of yet. I feel with regular changes it will work fine (for me anyways).

There are only a very few oil producing plants in north America - they often simply put another lable on the bottle.

No different than pulling up to a Shell station for fuel - very good possibility it actually came from an Esso or Petro Can refinery - industry sets standards, meets them and therefore can often swaps fuels and oils to brand under another name.
