Setting cylinder speed on JD 7700

The cylinder speed adjuster operated from inside the cab is chain driven at the sheaves. Last year we had numerous instances of the chain jumping the

wood tightener. We made adjusting a two man operation, one to adjust and

one to watch the chain.



Prior to this harvest the adjuster sprocket was replaced and shimmed.

Although much improved, the problem still exists. Is there an easy solution to this problem or is there a way to upgrade this system?

It is hard to say what the problem might be without looking at the machine. The first thing to do is try figure out what causes the chain to jump off - possibly sprockets are misaligned, or the wooden block on the tightener is worn, or the chain is catching on something. If it is a problem with the wooden block, you might want to try replacing it with a HDPE plastic block (high-density polyethylene).
