OVER 430 INTERNATIONAL DELEGATES IN SASKATOON FOR CSCA 2010 CONVENTION.

(Winnipeg, MB) - Over 430 people from 21 countries are in Saskatoon this week for the Canadian Special Crops Association's (CSCA) 24th Annual Convention. The CSCA 2010 Convention, taking place at the Sheraton Cavalier from July 12 to 14, has attracted a record number of delegates signaling strong interest in the Canadian pulse and special crops industry. A slate of international speakers will discuss topics including market opportunities for pulses and special crops, transportation, market access and production outlook. Speakers include:
*The Honourable Gerry Ritz, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, will address the convention on Tuesday, July 13 at 11:30 a.m.
*Dr. David Katz, an internationally-renowned authority on nutrition, weight management and the prevention of chronic disease from Yale University, will talk about the health benefits of foods such as pulses and special crops. Dr. Katz contributes a monthly column to O, the Oprah Magazine; blogs to Prevention Magazine and is the principal inventor of the Overall Nutritional Quality Index in the NuVal(tm) nutrition guidance program, currently offered in over 500 U.S. supermarkets.
*Dr. Adil Najam, a leading expert on climate change, will discuss the importance of sustainability and how pulses and special crops can be part of the solution. Dr. Najam is a Professor of Global Public Policy at Boston University. He served as a Lead Author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which was awarded the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize along with Al Gore. In 2008, he was nominated by the United Nations Secretary General to serve on the UN Committee on Development Policy.
