pea straw melsh

I am doing some research into peas straw melsh for gardens. I was wondering if anyone knows the answers to the below questions?

- Do you need to treat the straw before using it as a melsh / fertilizer?
- If so with what, how much and the minimum time it takes before you can
use the melsh?
- What nutritional components does it add to the soil?
- Where else can I find this kind of information?
