Peas!

Well all of us who still try to grow
peas are not getting the results we
hoped for. The nicest field in the
district, which had every thing given to
it only yielded 30 at the best. The
poorest in the district is coming in at
10. Lots of 15 to 23.
Now the second problem besides the
water. See water makes great nesting for
Geese and Ducks. DAh 5 years of stupid
weather and walah you have thousands of
birds, they are hungry and guess what
your fields are open. Field of ours that
s out of the way was almost half gone
when we pulled in yesterday. They dont
even move when the machines go buy. A
machine gun would work but their
protected. Fricking Ducks Unlimited.
The other problem was the huge down pour
three weeks ago with 100 km winds it put
every thing flat and cut shut down
plants.
So over all our area is probably in
their last days of growing pulses. Were
done and most I have talked to are done
with peas and lentils their all yours
Western Sask.

We gave up on peas, lentils,and barley five years ago. These crops dont like wet ground and cool nights. Wheat and oats are the only crops to grow until we are out of this wet cycle. Tried soyabeans a two years ago and they grew great but they need a long fall. Canola is loosing ground on this farm next year.

Geese don't like it when you shoot through
them with a big rifle. You don't have to
hit them, actually it works better if you
fire over top them. They tend to flock
off for quite a while this time of year.
Glad to hear that more people are scared
of peas.

Just finished ours tonight. 320 ac averaged about 41.

Slapshot, our's ran about the same, volume wise, SESK, but they weigh 426g/0.5l, which I think is very heavy.

Anybody know the conversion to lbs/bus. for peas? CGC doesn't have a chart for peas

Sold our seed yesterday to fill the
contract I took. Thats how bad they are
our way, small little shit. Geese damage
is huge, little f*%kers dont even move
when combines go by. Good thing I had 4000
carry over and seed should get out of my
contract. Crop insurance in 2012. Yea its
a fricking bumper.

Peas are 60lbs/bu.
One field went 32, the other 51. The one that went 51 is a high, dome shaped clay hill that usually is poor. Well drained though.

Done 900ac so far, low 41 and high 49.6 by volume, not sure on wieght yet. Yield depends on weed control here. Some wind/hail damage. Color still good - greens at 10.50 now. Need rain to hold off for 3 more days if things go good. Heavy rain areas south are seeing 10-25 bus/ac and very flat.

furrow thats what were seeing if its a
very heavy rain area 10 is good. One guy
in very light soil west of us had 41. I
mean light soil. Most years he grows
nothing on it. Should be pasture. Oh well
some win some lose.
