    Pea seed

What are the chances of sourcing good quality pea seed at reasonable prices for 2003? I have heard $15/bu or more for certified. What are other people hearing?

Sounds about right if you look at the $7-7.50 for bin run for export and prices still climing because of low supplies. Ausies are taosted to, so any large new sullies can only come from Europe first in July 2003, leaving the price door wide open until buyers realy say we rather starve our people to death. Cruel but true.

I have access to about 25 - 30,000 bushel of CDC Handel, Grand & Profi.

Thuse where multilied by porducers in my area, if I purchase this with $2.50 - 3.50 bonus to the grower, pluse cleaning, risks of claims etc. profit for me $13 - 15.00 bsh should be the going price.

Green pea seed will be 17 - 20.00 just about guaranting high GP prices into late next year since growing YP is much easier.

I guess reasonable is relative. Thanks for the response. I am not sure if I can afford $50 an acre (3 bu./ac) to seed a crop after two straight years of drought. THe cash flow just doesn't exist. Peas may be off the menu altogether.

There will be lots of people sitting on the side lines for pulses this coming year because of high seed prices and carryover fertilizer and in some cases herbicides.I don't know whether it will dramatically alter our production given a return to a "more normal year",but it will make pulse marketing interesting.
