"On the world stage, this government will continue to advocate for an agreement in World Trade Organization negotiations to reduce harmful foreign subsidies, and increase access to key export markets. Within Canada, this government will continue to support the federal government in its plan for grain marketing reforms, including marketing choice for wheat and barley."

I now have a different view on "bad world subsidies". What is wrong with countries that "like" their farmers and want to keep them! Why are we fighting to lower their standard of living, instead of us fighting to raise ours to their standard? We are never going to be on the same "level playing field", with varying wages, land costs and input costs world wide...it ain't gonna happen, so leave their system alone if it is working for them, and let's figure out how to change our system. Enough of the "low food costs" policy.

      perfecho:

      You state your solution:

"leave their system alone if it is working for them, and let's figure out how to change our system."

Hong Kong was NOT unhappy with changing their system to what G8's enjoy!
      The results?

Annual income (averaging the measurement systems, AM$$)

      Canada $23-29K
Hong Kong $25-28 K(Do they want to emulate China again?)

      China $1-5K

      Thailand $2-7K
      Nepal $2hundred -1Kh
      Mongolia $4hundred -2K

      Philippines $1-4K

These countriues are neighbors to Hong Kong. Leave them alone? They are enjoying their prosperity?

Table 4: Regional Average Per Capita Incomes using Atlas method

Region Per Capita Income in US$
      World 5,500
      Low income 450
      Middle income 1,920
      Lower middle income 1,480
      Upper middle income 5,340
      Low & middle income 1,280

      East Asia & Pacific 1,080
      Europe & Central Asia 2,570
      Latin America & Caribbean 3,260
Middle East & North Africa 2,250
      South Asia 510
      Sub-Saharan Africa 490

      High income 28,550
      European Monetary Union 22,850

The G8's make good coin, of which you are part of and enjoy G8's trade.

So you advocate South Asia "enjoy" $510 per year, perfecho? Leave them alone? That is your advice?

      Interesting.
You want to change our system.

You want to be more like they are?

Thanks for input, and I will have to take in and regeritate all the info.....in between calving and lifes hectic pace...I am a slow learner.....however, the #'s may or may not be as relevant as they appear. If the basis is making a living, and having a comparable life to those around you, $500.00 may do it. Heck, here in the hub of the oil activity, making a 100k won't keep up to the surrounding area.
Is the lower incomes a direct result of some countries being subsidized or other factors?
Obviously you have looked into this topic much more than I....could you advise a good, quick read site for more info.
        Thanks!

          perfecho,

Sorry, I forgot to reference the webpage:

          http://www.success-and-culture.net/articles/percapitaincome.shtml

If you want to compare pages, go to google and type in:

          per capita income world

and you will get many pages to chose from and compare.

Happy calving. Did that for many years.
