    Canola on pea stubble?

Can that be a successful crop rotation?
What about crop diseases crossing over from peas to canola? I'm sure some here have tried it, can it work?

Best canola yields here come off pea stubble hands down. Have done it multiple times

It will work well. Most of the time see a yield boost. Herbicide residue may be an issue.

Ya, forgot to mention I used Authority
with the burnoff, so likely I'd be risking chemical damage.

Always do canola on peas. Lots of rain so not worried about authority carryover and use viper in crop

Been doing canola on pea stubble for years. Works well, reduces our spring frost risk but risk of sclero is there and always yields better regardless how much n you put on cereal stubble.
Used viper as well on peas - no residual issues for canola. Moving to different chemistry this year in peas though for other reasons.

Yes is does but - Just watch for root rot - be carefull what you use for certain herbicides and burn offs

furrow what are you switching to?

We are putting authority down and then probably viper...

Was thinking of doing the old Bassagran assure II a week later.... more expensive but easier on crop...

Yup basagran , going to spray treflan on with round up for burn off.
Hopefully find generic basagran next year prob $5/AC instead of $25

Last year we seeded some canola into pea stubble.

Around here it is surprising how fast things can dry out. Last spring, not all of the first half section seeded to canola on pea stubble would have germinated if it wasn't for a third of an inch rain on May 6th. Individually, most of the pathetic showers after that probably wouldn't have been enough to get it out of the ground. First meaningful rain after May 6 was July 19.

If you're in an area with questionable soil moisture....shallow seeded crops can be a challenge to get established. Pea stubble will likely be drier than cereal stubble.

How much trash can you have with the treflan spray? and is the seeding the only incorporation of the treflan, I ve thought about doing something like that but maybe granular although spraying with the burnoff would be ideal.

As most know were in a wetter area. We have for years always followed peas with Canola. Usually Liberty but some times RR.
Excellent results that are usually our highest yield.
But all our fields of Peas are usually Kelly Harrowed twice in Fall before freeze up. Once the Day or two after harvest and then in Mid to late October.

riders, what was interesting last year in the Racks pea trials was that they (we) worked parts of the plot black. they came in before seeding and incorporated treflan on a series of plots before seeding and some plots were just sprayed the day after seeding with the round up and treflan. Also the tref/rup burn off was sprayed after seeding into a no till(standing wheat) situation. At the end of the day weed control was about par in all three situations. More interesting was the reduction in disease in all treflan plots.
