regarding peas and the Canada-E.U. free trade deal starting today.

Canada - E.U. free trade agreement comes into force today. BNN says 98% of tariffs removed with this deal.

Will this allow the movement of more peas into Europe, thinking particularly Green Peas here? Were there many barriers keeping Canadian peas uncompetitive in the European market? Looking for news that could improve the outlook for Green Peas.

Any comment from those with trade information on the question, greatly appreciated.

Hearing there could be as much as $110/t tariff removed for Durum wheat sales to the E.U. with this agreement. That should help price and movement. The Italians were freaking out this summer about durum imports from Canada, wonder how they pacified them?
Still haven't heard anything about existing tariffs on Canadian peas. Maybe there are none to be removed, which would be surprising.

As far as CKOM radio report the tariff on durum to EU is upto $190/T and Oats is upto $115/T.
If my calc is around $5/ bus. That will make a big difference since Canada is the major exporter of durum. Their specs seem relaxed also with needs of 75% vitreous kernels.

I don't believe there is duty on peas going into Europe but Europe is pretty much self sufficient in peas anyway. France is often our competitor for Indian pea demand.

Overall pea market is weak today due to black sea yellow peas eating our lunch in India. Prices equating $6/bu to Canadian grower. So not much is being shipped from Canada.

New crop green pea samples are high in bleach so you would think the market would react eventually to higher value #2 low bleach green but in general these markets are super slow too.

No tariff on pulses, as for cereal tariffs, I cannot say, we do not export this product.
