Has anyone had any experience using stripper headers in peas. I've heard that they pick them up alright but are a little rough on them. Is this true?

I have heard similar comments to what kens has said. When peas are dry, cracking and damage can occur. As well, owners have noted that it is hard to control header height to avoid molehills because you can't really see immediately in front of the header and they also find that pea vines and trash hang up on the header if it has any sharp edges. Some have had to put extra duals on their combines with really large stripper headers to grain more stability in hilly land. The Alberta Pulse Growers have a harvesting video with some very good footage and commentary on stripper headers. Phone a district office and ask for a pulse specialist for more information on this resource. The stripper header still remains relatively rare in the area I serve.
