This depends on they type of lentils.
LGL and MGL will downgrade the most. Your Reds should be fine. If you are storing for the long haul be prepared to sell old crop at a discount to new crop.
Color is going to be what brings down the grade.
As far as grain spoiling, it depends. I have seen farmers lose bins b/c of kochia and also not turning the grain enough and not using their air enough.
If you are holding for a better price you could be storing for a long time.
This market seems to be steadily heading down.

My general recommendation is to not carry lentils from one year to the next. However, if they are of exceptional quality and you have taken care of them and growing conditions are looking like they will hurt quality -- then I would consider it. Under those specific circumstances, No 1 old crop lentils can become very desireable and attain premiums to new. If your quality is not good, I would never consider carrying lentils.
