Undergraduate Scholarships for First Year Students Enrolled at the
University of Saskatchewan
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Friday, June 12, 2009
The Saskatchewan Pulse Growers (SPG) announced funding for five Undergraduate
Scholarships for first year students enrolled at the University of Saskatchewan in a program
that is associated with the pulse industry or agriculture.
The one-time scholarships, valued at $5000.00 each, are available to applicants who are or
whose parent(s) are a registered Saskatchewan pulse producer (i.e. they have sold or grown
pulses in the last two years). The applicant must show an interest in pursuing a career
related to agriculture, while having completed Grade 12 with a minimum average of 70%
based on official transcripts. The applicant must also demonstrate leadership within their
school and community.
“SPG is excited to offer these scholarships to first year U of S students,” notes Raelene
Regier, Variety Program Administrator with the SPG. “The goal of these scholarships is to
reward accomplishment and encourage students to see the opportunities a career in
agriculture can provide. These students are essential to the future of the Saskatchewan
pulse industry.”
SPG represents over 18,000 pulse crop producers in Saskatchewan. Accountable to growers
and funded through a mandatory, non-refundable check-off, SPG has a producer-elected
board of directors comprised of seven pulse growers. SPG has a legislated mandate to build
a prosperous pulse industry in Saskatchewan and promote sustainable innovation, growth,
and success through leadership, collaboration, and support.
