    The sky is falling down

I started to read some of the comments on different topics and things don’t look good, farmers think that the Government people are a bunch of idiots. The tree huggers, animal lovers, and some environmentalists think that money grows on trees, and that money should be used to feed and house the homeless people.

Some people think we should build a fence around Canada and block out foreign investment and big industries, because they pollute our air and water.

The cities should not expand and take up good farmland, but leave it for the wildlife and nature loves.

We should only grow and eat organic food, because synthetic fertilizers, herbicides and GMO products will kill you.
Organic food has taken over conventional markets, because it has increased sales by 25% ( 25% of .5% is nothing to get over excited about.)

We should rob the rich, feed the poor and pay union people bigger wages. ( NDP and opposition Government policy )

You are a hypocrite if you call down the oil industry, but still use their products.

If you don’t like the pulp and lumber industry, you shouldn’t use lumber to build a house, or use toilet paper, because these products are made from trees cut in the forest that destroyed wildlife habitat.

Some farmers think the Government is stupid and is the root of all their problems.

Some say people in Canada can’t own guns. (You can own all the guns you want as long as you register them.)

Only farmers are smart and I don’t know why others don’t see that.

The Government must be a mass confusion with all them stupid elected people running the country. ( Farmers can’t seem to agree on any working policy, but that is the Government’s fault.)

One should only read and believe books written by bias people that think the white man is destroying the planet.

I was born yesterday and know I should have waited until all the do-gooders fixed this planet before I arrived.

I was hoping that Canada was a good place to live.

Stop the World, I want to get off!

You have gone a ways, Steve, to describe just how complex the problems that we are facing really are. Agriculture, Fisheries, Forestry, Oil and Gas are all primary industries that are driven almost exclusively by profit. And that is not necessarily bad in that it promotes wealth in our economy, but what do we do when we have exhausted our resources and polluted our nest? Were do we go when we no longer have seemingly endless resources to tap into in order to keep the country growing at the present rate? There was a time, not too long ago when we thought we had endless supplies of fish, water, electricity, and fresh air. Most of us realize this is no longer the case. Do we just wait until the problem is critical or do we try to head off the probelms?

I don’t believe the sky is falling down, but extremists would make one think it is. I was tiring to point out how a young person with no working experience farming, business, and Government involvement knowledge could analyze a lot of these comments.

All the pessimistic extremists sure don’t paint a very good picture for our young people.

Stay positive and don’t go to extremes is the answer to good living.

Work toward sustainable solutions and don’t just keep rewording the same problems and just maybe our young replacements will produce good safe food for the future.

"Stay positive and don't go to extremes is the answer to good living"I can see this being said by one who is near the end of their farming career with the issues of the future not having much of an effect on them.

As a "young replacement" I have to and will find the answers I need to keep me successful in my future years on the farm.

After a winter in Arizona on the golf course, life can look pretty rosy!

Gotta love the positive side of life! But we also leave behind a legacy and if we don't deal with it, then the younger folks will! To many of us sit back and hope someone else will make the changes needed, but we all know in our own hearts that we need to do something other then what we are doing now!

But YES!!!! I am positive about the future, I will make the changes, and I am sure the folks that follow our generation will have their own challenges to deal with. I just hope I don't leave to many behind me!

All I can say if it is not us that is going to change it then who will? If it is not now that we are going to change things, then when?

Is the sky falling? Well if it is I hope it is in the form of rain and on our friends that need it the most!
