    Deb: Where are you?

I have been missing Debs' left field comments. This whole group sucks without her comments! Yes! she is right off the wall but hey! that is a good thing! Nothing like a little idealism to counteract old reactionaries like me and Steve!!!

I have also been wondering where the heck Muttley has been hiding these days.Maybe he's busy coming up with the master plan for Canadian agriculture!

He is the main man, and if you doubt it just ask him. He has no political opposition so he does what he wants when he wants and doesn't care what anybody thinks. He will be prime minister till he wants to quit because there is up until now no body in opposition that can catch the fancy of the majority of the voters in Canada. It is to bad but get used to it.

        countryguy,

The grain pricing order is a firm contract that states that you will sell a specific amount of a certain grain at your target price.

This allows the company to know exactly what you must have to make the deal... and this can happen in two ways.

        1. If the futures rise enough that the companies normal basis triggers the price, then the target is met and the contract in triggered. Often futures trade during the day's session can trigger these contracts as the daily high often is not at the close of the session, so a midsession trigger can occur without you watching the market trade every minute of every day, it is done automatically.

        2. If the company needs the grain, the company can narrow the basis to trigger the contract.

Most important is to know your own costs to know what a profitable price for your farm's grain, and what price is attainable and could be paid by your grain company.

If these two come together, then the contract is good for both buyer and seller, the trademark of fair business that is sustainable over the long term.

A good explaination of a GPO Tom.

Now countryguy there,s alot a laughter in the coffee shop here about me placing an $8.50/bus. GPO for Oct. delivery. But several of the other farmers have also placed the same GPO.

This may appear to be a tad optimistic right now but we have never lost a crop this time of year either and I'am not about to give my new crop away on the futures market at this point in the year. So I fiqure that if enought farmers would commit to a GPO on their new crop it could and should help to push the market higher if buyers want to guarantee supply of the new crop.

Ianben what do you think of this method of asking for a price. Could it be a vehicle for farmers to gain alittle control for higher prices.

Now most market experts and anlyst done mention this option in the market because there is no commission paid or earned on this transaction. You just place the GPO with your Grain Co. and there is no cost to you. All grain Co.'s may not provide a GPO contract for you though.

I'm not off the wall at all Cowman, you need to get out more. You are the scary one. You need to read stuff from the Parkland Institute. You also need to go on a vacation to eastern Canada. Go with someone who loves this country.

Do you know a book by Michael Moore called "Stupid White Men"? It trashes the U.S. republicans and George Bush and his corrupt cronies. It's been number one on the Times bestseller list for a month and is in its 19th printing! It's #1 in Canada too and Britain and Ireland. Even with a virtual press blackout on the book. The media has been ordered to avoid writing about it. There's not a journalist with a job that they want to keep that dares ask how this can be when the president of the U.S. is supposed to have the highest approval ratings ever. None of them do any investigative writing about the Enron-backed criminals in the White House or finding out what really happened before and after September 11. 154 million out of the 200 million voters did not vote for Bush. They are sick of the stupid white men who run the country.

In Tampa, Florida 2,500 people went to a democratic convention while at the same monent, almost 7,000 went to a rally called Democracy Rising. The rally was organized by Ralph Nader and Michael Moore signed the 2000th copy of Stupid White Men sold that night alone, around 2 AM.

Yes, Canadian politicians can be just as crooked as American politicians, especially since the same corporate powers are pressuring Ottawa. Alberta of course needs no pressure. The Canada that you despise is run by the same people in the U.S. that you worship!! We're gung ho to follow in the footsteps of the anti-democratic corporate pied pipers. Canadians aren't revolting more because they are busy, they are extrememly uninformed about who is behind the gov't, and they aren't sure what to do.

Cowman, we are different, that's for sure. If a farm organization is not working, I like to get in there, find out why, and do what I can to help save the family farm or support real sustainable agriculture. If my country is falling apart, I like to get in there and find out why and do what I can to help keep this country a civil country that cares about the welfare of the least of these my brethren.

Where have I been? I just finished my research paper on private property rights and the subdivision of ranchland. I think I'm going to write a book on the subject now. There are two sides to the issue and they remind me of you and me!

Carebear you are right and you could say the same thing for Ralph Klein and Alberta.

Did you notice the planes were made by Bombardier? We've got to support our Quebec industry! Just another good liberal doing his duty. I wonder if the liberals ever get elected in Alberta if we'll be buying a small jet from Bombardier to fly back and forth from Lethbridge?

Well thank you Deb for enlightening me. Good to see you come out of your corner swinging!
I have few illusions about American politics or corporations. The white house and Cheney in particular are pretty dirty when it comes to Enron.
Clinton wasn't any better...in fact probably a lot worse.
I will admit I've never been east , nor do I have any desire to. Just a backwards old Alberta red neck, that's me!
I see the Tories won the by-election at Wainright after the budget came down, so I guess the Alberta people must still support old Ralph. Or maybe it's just the alternative would be worse?

Something like 38% (or less) turned out for that by-election and it was a choice of 6, but what was the choice? I guess that's part of the problem for people - they feel that they have no choice. How do we give them candidates that they feel or perceive might do something for them.

                      Countryguy;

For more info on GPO you can go to Revised Marketing System Dec.5 2001 21:27 on this thread.
Tom did a good job of explaining, but you may want to take a look at my comments when I first started to promote GPO in Dec.
