    The trouble in Ottawa

Now that the Liberal government seems to be waging a civil war in its own ranks, as well as running for cover in the corruption scandals, I wonder what will happen in regards to agriculture?
Will they forget their vague lukewarm committment to "maybe" do something?
On what side of the Martin/Chretien war is Lyle? If he's a Martin man I guess we can forget any help this year!

You mean you thought they didn't forget it as soon as it left their mouths?
Haven't heard much about who Lyle's supporting. I suspect he'll wait until he sees what is best for him, and I suspect neither Martin or Chretien put much stock in his opinion

I have that sickening feeling in my gut that this is just a big smoke screen to cover up the scandal that is actually overtaking this liberal government. They have been in power for so long don't ever think that they are not capable of anything to stay in power. As for our illustrious minister of agriculture I am sure the liberal party has as much faith in him as us farmers do. The funny part is you would think that he would just once do something to try and convince someone that he actually has something on the ball.

Well it sounds like he might open up the purse a crack or at least he's hinting at it pretty strongly. I suspect it will be less than is needed but it will be something I think. Probably a good portion of it will be taken up by administration(got to keep the gravy train rolling) and of course it would be taxable!
Ever since Chretien sacked Martin the focus has sort of dropped off about the corruption thing so you could be very right about it being a smokescreen. Afterall if the auditor General is about to do some prosecuting what better way to deflect criticism than the idea of throwing the culprits out! Of course we would basically have the same old dog(Liberals) but a brand new leash (Martin).
