I was reading the Rimby Review yesterday(a central Alta. weekly) and the county council is asking the province to return the school taxes to the rural landowners, due to the drought. Good luck!
Now the school tax portion of our land taxes make up close to half the bill so it would be a nice little rebate...might even buy a few bales of hay! I know in Saskatchewan they have a school tax, which they usually rebate a portion of,but how about other provinces?
I suspect Rimbey countys request will be turned down big time! The only way school taxes, in Alberta, are going is up! We have to pay for the 14% pay increase the teachers got this year. And why do they need this huge increase? Because Ralph got a little too generous with the doctors and nurses last year and they'd like to try to keep up! 21% increase for them! Afterall you can't have labor unrest when you are trying to win an election! And a doctor can't be expected to drive a year old BMW!
