Health Canada has an online consultation on their proposed changes to Canada's food guide, until March 24. Please go to http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/ahc-asc/public-consult/col/food-guide-alimentaire/consult_e.html and fill out the LONG survey to suggest the following corrections and any others you may find:
In the meat and meat alternatives section, the pictures proposed as examples would show several different examples of bean or nut based foods, but only ONE serving of a food that could be either beef or pork and one of chicken. Beef/pork should get AT LEAST equal billing.
In the fruit and vegetable section, the examples should focus on Canadian-grown fruits and vegetables that consumers can acquire fresh and locally, not tropical fruits and vegetables.
In the breads/cereals section there should be less emphasis on rice (except perhaps wild rice) and more on grain products
And in my personal opinion fortified soy "milk" should not be in the milk section.
