    Saskatchewan Election /2003

Well we are off to the polls here Nov. 5 for a provincial election. Sk. has had a NDP government for the last several years and whether we stay that way is a guess right now.
The Sask. Party is a group of people made up of other parties that seem to stand for the same things as the P.C. party does. In fact much of it is just a different name. The Liberals have a decent leader but after the last election the Liberals hopped into bed with the NDP and ticked off lots of people, I think this will hurt them alot. Many people now refer to them as spoilers, splitting the vote with Sk. Party and going to let the NDP up the middle.

I am just not sure who to trust and vote for. It won't be the NDP but I sure do not like Hermanson the Sk. Party leader. I like the Liberal leader and the local candidate but I don't want the NDP up the middle, what's a person to do?

The brutal fact is that there is not an appealing leader in any of the three parties.

You are either voting for Sask. party and change or NDP and more of the same.. losing our kids and resources to other provinces. A vote for any Liberal candidate most definitely is a vote for the NDP as it takes a vote away from the Sask.Party. Don't forget that it was Liberals that helped the NDP form gov't the past 4 years.

The Sask party is not perfect and will make mistakes but I'm sure willing to give them a shot.

I will vote Sask Party but not really struck on Hermanson as a leader either. I hope that electing a different government than the NDP will make a difference in this province. The last time we made a change got too many unscrupulous individuals elected that screwed up all the good things that were trying to be achieved. I hope it makes a difference cause if it doesn't this province is doomed!!!!

I certainly am concerned with two things, Hermanson is not well liked as a politician. His own party has told him not to say much that is why so many other MLA'S do the talking. Many people in Sk are talking vote Sk. Party because there is no other vote except NDP. If we elect this man and his party I hope that he and the party do the right things needed or in four years we will be back to 8 to 12 years of NDP rule.

In Sk. it takes alot to get a right wing party elected and they seem to kill themselves with the voters. Look at all the mistakes the NDP has made and they are still in the running to form government. I have been saying for years that right wing parties must come out and say we are not getting rid of crowns, we will work with the unions. They must do more to help get the trust of the urban voters if there is any hope for us in the rural, I don't like it but it's a must.

The ONLY reason the NDP are in the running to again form the government in Sask. is because they have the best and cheapest public relations ferm money can buy. But they don't have to pay for it. The media!!

I'm not really up on Saskatchewan politics but it seems to me Devine and his scoundrels pretty well cleaned out the safe when they were in? It also seems to me Romanov did a fairly decent job cleaning up the mess Devine left things in? He had to get pretty brutal with the healthcare spending and such to make up for the hole the Tories dug?
I wonder if the Sask. party will hold a fire sale on crown corporations? Then you could have an American corporation in upping the prices and squeezing the costs such as wages and service. Why you might just get all those wonderful free enterprize things that Alberta has like private telephone, electricity, insurance! Of course expect to pay a whole lot more, but know you are supporting the "free" market system.

It's true the Devine government had it's share of problems I doubt Romanow and the NDP have done much the last few years to correct them.
We now have a governement spending millions on lossed deals around the world, not much support for agriculture except talk, even many urban dwellers are getting sick of it and want a change.
There's scoundrels and crooks in every government the problem with the Devine one was they got caught!!!

I am not trying to defend Devine but there are sure a lot of people with very short memories.

Do you recall what the good 'ol bank of Canada had interest rates pegged at back then. Interest on bank loans was at 15-18%. Devine saw that a lot of farmers were going to go under so tried to help them out with loans from ACS at 9%. I know a lot of people who made damn good use of that money in paying down some high interest bank loans.

Devine's biggest fault was trying to help agriculture and farmers in general too much.

As far as theives or crooks. All parties are guilty of that. I predict the paper shredders will be in high gear on Nov. 6th.

One other thing to remember about the Devine government is the fact that the real power in his government was held by the liberal ministers in his cabinet!

With Devine out of the picture now, RomaNO is gone, there is a new political scene in Sk. Why then are we going back a decade?
What will be in Hermanson's closet the next election? Will the Sk. Party be out of the picture if they do not form government? What may happen to agriculture in Sask. if the NDP are again elected? Is there really any political party here that appeals to both urban and rural?

Who knows what the future will bring? Thank goodness nobody or god only knows what we might do. As far as politics goes in this province it doesn't really matter they all sort of operate in the same manner, get elected and then forget that you were elected to represent your constituents not line your own pockets. Will this ever change? I sincerely hope for all our sakes it does because good government is good for not just urban or rural voters it is good for everybody.

I wonder if, whoever gets in, will they sign up for Van Cleifs "Super Nisa"? Now, I believe Serby has made some pretty bold statements concerning this? What will Hermanson do? Will he suddenly see the light? And sign up with all the other toadies like Ralph Klein? Or will he be the great white hope that saves the nation?

Having great faith in the type of politician we get in this province Hermanson if he does get in will put on quite a show for us all but in the end will cave in just like the rest. Cooperation on the farm policy will be traded for something important like maybe this time enlarging Wascana Lake not just deepening it like this time. Oh I am getting cynical, aren't I? A Saskatchewan election at its best nothing but B.S. polluting the air these days.
