In Alberta we are soon to be more regulated by the little "experts and planners" in regards to manure management and water use. Of course this will cost a whole pile of money so we will need some sort of "user" fee to pay for it. Read that as pay for a beuracracy(and we all know how they can grow!).
All right that's just peachy...we'll do our part to save the environment! But do you think it would be fair to insist that any product coming into our country have the same strict regulations? I mean how do we compete with some old third world type country where there are no rules? How can our vegetables/fruit compete with Mexican produce when they can use DDT and raw sewage for fertilizer? At the very least Mexican product should be labelled if it has been treated in this way. But is it? Better think about that the next time you buy that cheap package of Mexican tomatoes...that is if Safeway even tells you they are from Mexico!
