For the first time in over five years we have water running and potholes and dug outs filling, I hope moisture comes for the rest of you soon.

Here in central Alberta we had a pretty decent snow year...at least right where I am. I really can't remember a year when the snow has simply gone into the ground like this year! Absolutely no run off...the snow just sort of disappeared. We have been very dry the last few years which continues a drier trend that started about 1990.
The farmers are fairly concerned and anxious, however last year we got some heavy snow storms late in the spring that really helped, so maybe it will happen again.
If we don't get a decent moisture year it could be really ugly.

Out in our area in West Central Alberta, it is not boding well so far. The fish pond that we have normally recharges from the runoff every year and we have a seasonal creek that runs through the bottom of our quarter. This year the water is not flowing through that seasonal creek and the pond is not recharging, which is very ominous indeed. If we don't get those spring rains/snows, it doesn't look good.
The water on the surface is an indication of what is happening below ground. The fact that there is very little surface water and/or runoff tells me that it is quite dry.
We can always look forward to the April showers!!!!

It is drying up quickly here in south central saskatchewan as well. The snow is pretty well all gone and the frost is coming out of the ground quickly and the sloughs are dissappearing quickly. Sure hope it rains this spring.
