Until carbon tax goes to $170 and natural gas becomes unaffordable to a lot .
The world’s energy supply is changing , so why encourage more carbon tax for nothing ??

And what is a cheaper way to reduce carbon emmissions?

So far, where ever the solar and wind route has been attempted, CO2 emissions have not been reduced. Due to many of the factors shtfrbrains mentioned above. At tremendous cost. Trillions have been spent, and there is nothing to show for it. The cost per unit of reduced CO2 is astronomical, even infinite, if you want to measure it your way.

So, to answer your question, basically anything else would be a cheaper way to reduce CO2 emissions.
Nuclear, natural gas, keep using existing coal plants, incentivize industries to move to where the electricity is produced efficiently and cleaner, instead of punishing them so they are forced to move to where it is dirtier.

But, I thought it was a climate emergency, and now you think it is a time to be frugal about the solution? We only have a few years left to save the planet, and your worried about the cost?

One other possibility, is that you could save on the second M when you type emissions, that in itself would add up, considering how often you post about this.

Do you know what else China is the world leader in? Building new coal fired power generation.

They're planned new coal plants by 2025 would exceed all of the existing solar in the entire country.
Their fossil fuel generation already is eight times more than all of the solar and wind put together
So they can sell all the electric cars they want, and they will still be essentially all coal powered.
But in their case, they don't pretend that plant fertilizer is pollution. They are trying to reduce actual particulate pollution in urban areas.
So an electric car in a city powered by a coal fired power plant far away accomplishes that.

Do all these terrible injustices to the environment in Asia or Africa. Permanently pollute the soil and water and the food supply. Poison and endanger the workers, release heavy metals. Huge open pit mines and tailing ponds.
Then ship the refined or finished product to the first world, and market it as environmentally friendly Green technology. Then the virtue signaling Earth muffins buy it all up while shaming, taxing and regulating to death the responsible clean local industries.

If you really believed this was an issue you would be raising it over and over again about all kinds of industries including oil extraction and coal mining.

They produce about 12 times as much as Canada.

Our current solution for solving the climate emergency is to cap natural gas production as China and half the world are expanding coal to grow their economies. Ever shipment of LNG we export reduces coal expansion.

China is certainly a big issue and a concern because of its coal and greenhouse gas emissions.

But they are also leading the installation of renewable electricity and EVs.

But the rest of the world matters as well.

And the US is clearly moving away from dirty coal to cleaner electricity options.
