Its a good thing that very well off and generous countries like Canada are willing to act as a refuge for the victims of war and oppression.

Poland for example has taken hundreds of thousands of women and children from the Ukraine. Many other countries are stepping up.

Many in our military consider the Afghans who worked with them in Afghanistan as very deserving refugees who need our support and protection from the Taliban.

Many of our ancestors were refugees and immigrants who were escaping war and poverty looking for a better place.

But Jazz is more concerned about the tax bill for humanitarian work, than the fact that many immigrants and refugees are well educated or highly skilled and hard working workers that fill many job vacancies.

Yes some need more time to learn the language and make the transition. But most will over time will become proud Canadian citizens that make a large contribution.

Jazz represents the anti refugee and anti immigrant noise from the fringes. This is what Kenney was talking about.

Conservatives can't win an election in Canada running on an anti immigrant anti refugee message.

Canada cannot support more people on welfare and some on it for a decade. Simple as that.

Remember these people also get child allowance and use food banks too. Many are in their mid 30s and too old to retrain and dont have the resources to do it anyway.

This bad policy and doesnt help our country at all. These people will never be able to stand on their own and the cost of living in this country will destroy them and the next generation as well. Another permanent dependent underclass being formed.

I gotta side with chuck on this one. What percentage of canadians who fall into the welfare state are still relying on it 5 or 10 years later. In a perfect world nobody would need handouts.
Jazz did u get crop insurance last year? Im not being a jerk but we sure did and the amount we got would be a lifetime of handouts for many...many...many immigrant families. Canadian farmers are incredibly subsidized and we all have no problem with that ( but all pretend like we arent).
The biggest problem in canada ( and even told true by mr harper at the edmonton ag convention a few years ago as the keynote speaker) is that canadians ( naturally born...even though our family were immigrants in 1901) arent having enough children. The only reason we are not in a serious state of population decline is because of immigration. And honestly... who cares?
We have first world problems. The biggest complainers of high fuel prices are the ones who live in overly priced houses in the most expensive cities.. or drive 100 k jacked up trucks and didnt give a peanut when gas prices were 80 cents/ L...but now their gas guzzler suddenly becomes a problem. You know what i mean?
I very much enjoy the banter....and always read what both chuck and jizz post...but handpicking stats is just that.....handpicking them to suit your narrative. I would pay 10 k a year if i knew a syrian family of 5 got to live a better life in Canada and didnt have to worry about their childrens future...or lives for that matter.

Fact is they don't have a choice to work as they have to apply for a federal work permit.
Current wait time is +4 months minimum with no refugees in the queue.
Our ancestors registered on arrival in much larger numbers than encountered today. Over the years government has improved that.

Provincial government could do it much quicker or municipal goverment probable immediately.

The Federal government can get them on welfare immediately but take 6 months to get them a work permit.
