Alberta 2 grid alerts in 2 days

So both grid alerts occurred between the high demand period of 4-7 pm. Issues with low wind production, of course after 4 pm solar disappears and on Tuesday issues with a couple of generators. This morning at 7:39 am. Alberta was using 11236 megawatts. 74.1% was coming from natural gas at 8323 megawatts. Alberta has 10894 megawatt natural gas capacity. 2.36% was coming from wind and solar at 265 megawatts. Alberta has 3618 megawatts of wind capacity and 1138 megawatts of solar. We were importing 719 megawatts from Saskatchewan, Montana and BC.

Our federal government constantly pushes renewable energy. Environmentalists say solar and wind with battery back up is the answer. Explain to me with the above numbers when solar and wind would charge the batteries. Obviously solar would be producing once the sun comes up. But you require excess production to charge the batteries.

My neighbour put up a large solar array last summer. He runs large refrigeration units for his farm to plate chicken operation, so it made sense. Solar company told him the federal government would subsidize about 25% once it was completed. He applied once it was finished but was rejected, apparently the Feds are more interested in funding heat pumps in Atlantic Canada. Heat pumps that don’t produce any heat below -10 Celsius, I might add, so they won’t work year round in Alberta. Regardless he still thinks it will make sense, 14 years to pay it off.

So Hamloc tell the whole story next time because you left out the generation derates, power reductions and an unplanned power outage but you blamed it all on renewables! And some of the problems occurred from the fossil fuel generation system. Typical UCP Albertan blinders on and manipulation of the facts.

Net zero lunacy has brought Alberta's grid dangerously close to collapse so have backup power ready. I noticed that since premier Smith has taken charge the net zero by 2035 has disappeared from the website. Alberta has shut in too much of its coal. Gennesee 3 is now listed as duel fuel and I hope that means that it can still use coal without NG being available otherwise we are at huge risk of blackouts during extreme cold.

Danny is so low in the polls the only think that she can think of is to blame the feds for the provinces boom and bust economy and mismanagement of one time resource revenue.

Yup I read all that and did acknowledge it if you actually read my post. But in typical socialist fashion you totally ignored the facts and my observation that you would need excess wind and solar production to recharge storage. Where would that come from? No solar for over 16 hours a day this time of year and true to form when under a polar vortex very little wind. Renewables such as solar and wind not a 365 day a year solution!!!!!

AESO update at 11:45.

Provincial consumption 11246 megawatts.
Natural gas 8433 megawatts. Hydro 156 megawatts. Solar 273 megawatts. Wind 89 megawatts. Coal 815 megawatts.. Other sources such as biomass and importing electricity make up the rest for those of you who will correctly point out it doesn’t add up.

Of interest coal producing 815 out of a potential 820 megawatts. Wind and solar producing 362 megawatts out of 4756. Still want someone to explain to me where the excess wind and solar will come from to recharge electrical storage needed at night to make solar a 24 hr. A day supply.
