Well I’m going to try some solar. Might as well, fell for the geothermal farce, that and living in the province with the highest cost per kilowatt hour in southern Canada, I’ve got to do something.

We had a geothermal installed in the house in 2009. System has been shut off since 2014. Just about broke us in electric bills.

A solar system only makes sense as a back up to the rural grid. Pretty much expensive back up though. But if Klaus takes down the grid with cyberattack it’s good insurance.

Renewables are the cheapest option for more new capacity so says the International Energy Agency.

But price doesn't seem to matter to those who promote nuclear which is by far the most expensive generation option which the private sector wont touch but some governments will heavily subsidize.

According to the IEA most of the new generation capacity is going to come from solar and wind in most countries because even if it is intermittent it's still the cheapest source of new capacity

And storage in the form of hydrogen, ammonia and other technology including EV batteries make intermittent renewables much more attractive.

You need a rolling base load. Hydro is great if you have a River to dam. Gas is good if you have a reliable supply not subject to a despots whims. Some jurisdictions base load is diesel like Jamaica. Batteries are crap storage.
