So we are all supposed to switch over to electric vehicles to solve a climate emergency caused by burning fossil fuels. Then we take our electric vehicles and plug them into a grid anywhere in the world, which is primarily fossil fuel powered. And when we can't access the grid, we'll plug them into a fossil fuel powered generator.
Anyone else getting the impression that no one takes the climate emergency seriously?

This has been discussed here before. That is definitely one of the many advantages of electric vehicles. As I have noted in the past, I see a lot of benefits to replacing dirty unreliable complicated inefficient engines with electric wherever it is feasible.
According to the article you posted:
if a power plant was solely run using fossil fuels, an electrified passenger fleet would still reduce emissions by between five and 29 per cent.
We keep being told that is a climate emergency. Requiring immediate and drastic actions.
Yet the proposed solution will reduce emissions by somewhere between 5 and 29%. I'm trying to figure out how fast we will get to to NetZero by reducing our emissions on all mobile transportation by 5%.
That is without considering that currently only one third of total energy consumption in the US comes from electricity. So if we are going to convert the transportation fleet and heating and industrial processes to electricity, we need to almost triple our generation and distribution networks. By the time we take into account the energy invested in all of that infrastructure, how much of the efficiency gains of going electric are left over?
Another stat, currently in the US 80% of all primary energy comes from fossil fuels.

Are we sure they are 'fossil fuels' or is that just a marketing term? Seems they are often found at depths below the level fossils have ever been discovered. Also so called depleted oil fields are often surprisingly replenished years later. Stay skeptical.

That is interesting. I've wondered about that. Were FF known reserves really created from massive vegetative or organic materials buried long ago? Or are they naturally occurring carbon concentrations that were deposited when earth was formed? Or something else. First I hear of depleted oil fields replenishing, I'll have to look that up.

No fossils that deep. Just the earth and chemical, reactions/compressions, probably ENDLESS supply.

Carbon based fuels are infinitely available. As long as plants will grow, fixing c02 from the air, carbon based fuels will be available.

C02 is the same as H2O ; infinitely available… even if it is buried… can be recovered.

Hybrid vehicles are the most efficient… plug in when convenient… biofuels of high energy when needed.

Closed minds… that refuse to accept common sense solutions… are doomed to being dinosaurs…. Extinction through lack of imagination…
