About 2000 Waffen SS came to Canada from WW2 prison camps in about 1947.
Along with about 300,000 Ukrainian refugees.

At that time Stalin was treating any Soviet POW's survivors of German prison camps that were coming home as traitors.

They would have been shot in Soviet Ukraine.

The rest of the world dumped them in Canada.

Let me get this straight, The soviets who took the biggest brunt of casualties in WW2, who were our allies and also liberated many concentration camps, suddenly decided to target their own people in the war, which made them join nazi units to fight them.

The Waffen SS is responsible for 125 canadian soldiers being killed many under torture and firing squad after capture. The SS was a volunteer group that resided above the Nazi hierarchy. It was Hitlers own personal hit squad. The staffed Auschwitz and others and routinely rounded up jews on the run.

And somehow this is Stalins fault.

Truth is that part of the world (ukraine) has been suspect for many decades of having divided loyalties, even today. They still have nazi parades in some of the towns.

I bet this story goes deeper. I bet Zelensky found that old boy and suggested him to Trudeau as a big virtue signal photo op.

I dont know whats worse, this guy getting a standing ovation or that the old boy and his family went with this along to get honored for their past misdeeds instead of politely declining. Like Canada was become an active Nazi state and they are right back in the saddle again.

Not condoning Nazis but none of you lived under the yoke of Stalin in Ukraine. There’s a reason a good chunk of Ukraine supported the Nazi occupation. It’s a complex situation all the way around but condoning what Russia has done to Ukraine past and present is mentally lazy.
