Because wikipedia and many other sources disagree with your broad sweeping generalization about the abusers being heterosexual.

Last I checked, all of the catholic priests were male, and 81% of their victims were male. Sounds like you would approve of this, since clearly the perpetrators were clearly not heterosexual.

There's an incredibly high percentage of youth who at some point between 12 and 20 (or maybe younger?) feel bad about themselves. Whether it's something about their looks, their smell, their lack of confidence... but many young people at some point are unhappy with who they are. I don't know how old the rest of you are, but I was a teen before the internet. There are times it truly sucked. Now, I can only imagine how much worse it is. If we had been told, repeatedly, that if you're unhappy, be someone new... how would we have dealt with it? Being a girl sucks? Become a boy! Being a teenage boy is awful? Become a girl! What an interesting way to deal with life. It surprises me that anyone could think that's the best solution.
