I think we are on the same page here. What do you find controversial about my post? We both agree that the social conservatives choose a leader, while they and their views constitute a very small minority of the rest of the population. With the result that the fiscal conservatives and centrists end up politically homeless on the outside looking in, while the radical left ends up in power far too often.

Many examples of successful floor crossing politicians, Winston Churchill and Ralph Klein come to mind.

If you had listened to Danielle Smith on the radio for 6 years you would see that she is not a social conservative, certainly somewhat of a Libertarian but not a social Conservative.

Is she Premier material? That is a good question. Realistically a successful politician has a thick skin and is a good salesperson and has name recognition. Also must be able to delegate responsibility and pick and manage a good team. Jason Kenney was a great politician but a poor manager. It remains to be seen if Premier Smith ticks all these boxes. One thing is for sure the CBC goes after her or the UCP almost daily!!!

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has delivered a new version of why she engaged in a controversial phone call with a Calgary street pastor in which they discussed his upcoming criminal case related to COVID-19 public health measures.

Smith told her weekly phone-in radio show Saturday that she took the call from Art Pawlowski because she thought it was going to be in the context of his role as the leader of another political party.

She said when the discussion veered into Pawlowski’s court case, she simply reminded the former head of the Alberta Independence Party that she had tried to gain amnesty for COVID accused but was told by justice officials the cases must play out independently, and that she accepted that advice.

She also said she disagrees strongly with Pawlowski’s “extreme views.”

“When we talked, I thought we were talking in the context of him being a political party leader because (Pawlowski) was at the time the head of the Independence Party,” Smith told her Corus radio audience on her show “Your Province Your Premier” in response to a question from the host.

“It turned into a discussion about what I was doing with COVID amnesty.

Pastor Art has been breaking many laws and getting into trouble for a long time before covid.

He thinks laws only apply to everyone else but not him. He was inciting violence in Coutts even after most of the protestors made an agreement with the RCMP.

He's the the type of Convenient Christian who lecture everyone on freedom and morals, but then thinks it's okay to ignore laws and take away the freedom of others to cross the border for business. He wants everyone live their life according to his distorted christian values and rules. He spreads hate in stead of love.

With his record of convictions and ignoring laws and rules he will be likely convicted in the latest case. An so he should be.
