In 2022 the market prices for fossil energy source rose much more than the carbon tax and ran up prices for consumers and resulted in record windfall profits for oil companies and a massive world wide transfer of wealth to oil companies that dwarfed the impact of carbon pricing.

Demand exceeded supply due to government policies which have enacted regulations to suppress the exploration, production and sale of fossil fuels. So companies are spending far less on increasing or maintaining production. Why was Germany as an example so affected by the Russian invasion of Ukraine? Because they put all their money on intermittent renewables backed up by natural gas, a good portion of which came from Russia. Oil companies are selling their product at the market price. Did you sell your wheat last year at $6 a bushel while other in your mind greedy farmers sold it for $12? I very much doubt it. Why don’t you left leaning supporters acknowledge that government policy is doing what you want, making energy expensive?! It is government padding the pockets of energy companies with their subsidization of unreliable energy sources!!!!

Supply and demand have been going up and down in the oil business for a variety of reasons for a long time without the impact of government regulation.

When prices drop drilling and production declines. When prices rise more drilling resumes.

OPEC has also been manipulating supply and prices as well. They recently cut production to keep prices higher because demand was slowing.

So if you want to point the finger at any government interfering in the oil market take a look at the members of OPEC.

I fear the unintended consequences on my children’s and grandchildren’s generations will be as impactful if not more than the climate change with no effect on the climate. Totally aside from any arguments on the effects Co2 is having on the climate, western economies can create debt and spend trillions with zero results.
60% of the emissions come from non participants.
That number will increase as we export our emissions to them as they see it as an opportunity to grow their economies and our politicians are happy with that as long as they look virtuous.
