How can fiscal conservatives think this is OK? Think the conservatives are wrong going away from aparty known as financially responsible.

You lefty folks here’s my tiny 🎻. Same old rhetoric same old modus operandi. I just hope if another conservative government is elected federally that our provincial government sticks to this as well as establishing a provincial police force. The less you depend on the Feds to manage your affairs the less influence they have. The CCF of my grandpas era would be rolling in their graves if they seen what democratic socialism has evolved into.

I have had some conversations with our MLA about the leverage they have against Ottawa, and how it can and is being used.
These moves all makes perfect sense when you have the context.
Unfortunately, they have not made any successful effort to educate the electorate about the closed door machinations between Ottawa and the provinces on these issues.
So the electorate just thinks this is an additional tax, or they are going to lose their CPP, or eliminating the RCMP will cost more etc.
The reason these and similar issues are being trotted out precisely is because these are the issues where the provinces have autonomy, and under the current system, we fund a disproportionate amount of the federal total. Hence threatening to change these programs gives the provinces great leverage in all other programs where we may not have the same legislative jurisdiction.

But judging by the predictable responses by the left on here, even if this was explained clearly, this is clearly far beyond their pay grade anyways.

By my calculations, Alberta and Sask could easily go it alone without federal transfers using their own surpluses and equalization contributions to fund their own health care systems.

Should rename yourself strawguy cause you’re using a straw man argument here. Aside from a few dyed in the wool ones no one trusts the federal government and any way we can distance ourselves from that mess the better. If you like your bread and circuses be my guest but otherwise your views are becoming the minority out west.

And here is Quebec, shes all one way with these guys, sucking up all the transfer and 30% less productive per capita than AB/SK.

The west is literally building them into their own nation within a nation, running it all, taking it all.

Quebec literally had a 200 yr head start on the west and here we are carrying them.

You’re not wrong there. That was the dumbest thing done like the NDP putting party hacks in charge of crown corps and running them into the ground or chasing a generation of young people to Alberta and letting infrastructure crumble to rat shit. What had more negative results to the province?
