New Beginning: Do you remember not getting into med school with a 92 average, a Bachelor of Science, the Governor General Medal, but 2 Malaysian twin sisters with lower averages and unable to converse in English got admitted? How about Government jobs when the qualifications were extensive experience in agricultural program delivery but low and behold, two applicants, an Angolan dock worker from Montreal and a new immigrant from Nigeria were shoe-ins? This is all going to change because one man Edward Blum contested this policy on a constitutional basis in US. Most universities, including Harvard and Queens used admission policy that disqualified qualified white applicants and admitted minorities instead. Apparently the judges disagree with this policy because Americans have constitutional rights to be treated equally despite race and colour. This discrimination is about to change, at last. Are we finally waking up? Bet old Chucky and Ag crapped the bed this morning when they read, “US Supreme Court delivers a set-back to Affirmative Action in College Admissionsâ€.
