Huge Consequences - No more Race Card in College Admissions

New Beginning: Do you remember not getting into med school with a 92 average, a Bachelor of Science, the Governor General Medal, but 2 Malaysian twin sisters with lower averages and unable to converse in English got admitted? How about Government jobs when the qualifications were extensive experience in agricultural program delivery but low and behold, two applicants, an Angolan dock worker from Montreal and a new immigrant from Nigeria were shoe-ins? This is all going to change because one man Edward Blum contested this policy on a constitutional basis in US. Most universities, including Harvard and Queens used admission policy that disqualified qualified white applicants and admitted minorities instead. Apparently the judges disagree with this policy because Americans have constitutional rights to be treated equally despite race and colour. This discrimination is about to change, at last. Are we finally waking up? Bet old Chucky and Ag crapped the bed this morning when they read, “US Supreme Court delivers a set-back to Affirmative Action in College Admissions”.

In Psychiatric Nursing, it was told to me that they don’t necessarily admit people with a Pre-Med 4-Year Bachelor of Science degree. Hmmm Probably white Anglo Saxons excluded to make room.

Finally, maybe discrimination against white people will come to an end.

Wouldn't that make most of the appointees in the current US administration unconstitutional?

Seems sexual orientation is also getting people to the top, for some reason gender benders are held in high regard in some circles.

As expected the usual rightwing suspects are sure they are white victims and that's why they haven't done so well in life.

And discrimination against minorities and people of colour doesn't exist. LOL

Interesting that in China nearly 13 million take the annual 2 day entrance qualifying exam. A real pressure cooker. Seen as their only way out of poverty.
Not a right but a privilege. Easy for them I guess, they're all one race?

Islamic empires were hugely successful in the early times because promotion within the bureaucracy was based on merit which the rest of their society was part and parcel of. Ultimately the decline and failure of said empires was due to not only a regression of thought and innovation because of a shift to theocracy but also the shift from the merit based system to a patronage one. Promotion based on who you are vs your capabilities does not ensure in the long term for a capable nor innovative society or economy. As well, it is the cornerstone for corruption. It is understandable that a leg up is provided to underprivileged people to get a better education and break cycles of poverty but hiring based on who you know or what you are above qualifications is reckless and just plain stupid to appease the bleeding hearts.

                          Fairly common sense??
The lessons the US Army learned in the civil war pertaining to your above, became the cornerstone of what it became in the 20th century.
It seems no matter your political direction, the tendency is to focus on the differences, not the similarities that bind.
Deny it however you may, but the "left" has become as bad as any.

And if we were in the US it would mean something but in Canada where the judiciary dances to a somewhat more liberal tune, don't expect great change.

It’s going to be difficult for Canadian courts to condone affirmative action when US Supreme Court has ruled by huge majority that it is unjust. To discriminate by age, race, colour, gender is all the same - discrimination. You can’t have it both ways, either you discriminate or you don’t.

This could have gargantuan domino effect. For instance, native prisoners can be treated at an heAling lodge, not sure if others can be treated in same fashion, many instances of inequality in our society.
