The salmon fishery has been in decline for a long time since before Trudeau. So its probably Harper's fault! LOL
The drought and low water levels in BC are making the salmon runs less successful.

Until the snow and rains return like the western coast of the US last winter , it’s called weather cycles, not climate change

Thanks for posting that Jazz. It was very informative. Hardly mentioned salmon. I suspect chuck knows as much about fishing as he does agriculture.

One of the saddest most mis-mangaged govt program of all time, except for maybe the NEP. Now its going to be repeated.
The scientist in the video says the salmon have not dwindled, just moved up the coast line due to rapid urbanization from immigration in the lower mainland. But fisherman cant even go up the coast to find them because thats all around Haida Gwaii and protected right up to Alaska border.Last edited by jazz; Sep 7, 2023, 16:24.

I don't know how to make that a hot link but it's a great piece about a similar issue on the Snake River where they want to take out 4 dams that enable grain to be shipped on barge from Lewiston Idaho to Portland for export.
When this system was built it was a huge engineering accomplishment that could never be considered in todays heavily regulated environment. Probably cost hundreds of billions.
A handful of envioromental activists want to spend $33 Billion to take it out because there is some theory it might restore WILD Salmon.
When those dams were built we ate canned Salmon sandwiches.
Now you can buy Salmon filets in any local supermarket ever day, all year.
First world problem?Last edited by shtferbrains; Sep 7, 2023, 18:13.

I didn't read the article, not sure if these dams are also used for hydroelectric, not that it matters, the green Wing nuts want to remove existing dams and prohibit any new dams, for any purpose.Last edited by AlbertaFarmer5; Sep 8, 2023, 11:37.

More available than any time in history.
Wild salmon is a political issue.
Used as a hot button issue to activate a small voter segment.
Not unlike all the emphasis on ***** folks.
